Welcome to my personal page for Take Stock in Children's "Strides for Education 5k" Walk/Run. I am very excited to be participating in the inaugural race that will be held simultaneously in more than 18 counties throughout Florida.
The funds I raise in the "Strides for Education 5k" Walk/Run (3.1 miles) will directly support this flagship mentoring program that has been providing mentors ( I am one) and college scholarships to Collier County's deserving low-income and at-risk children for more than 15 years.
Take Stock in Children follows students from middle school and high school and through their transition to college. If these students maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and remain drug-free and crime free, they are guaranteed a college scholarship at the time of their graduation.
Through this multi-year commitment, Take Stock in Children is breaking the cycle of poverty. They are decreasing the number of high school drop-outs and consistently report a 92% high school graduation rate continually surpassing the state average. Take Stock in Children is playing a critical role in providing an educated workforce for Florida's businesses and helping to insure the economic success of our state.
